Macron is the bane of of France, he is a petit Napoléon. I haven't seen a French president change governments as much as he did. We thought it was the débacle with Sarkozy and Hollande (eventhough I'd say Hollande staggered the blows of Sarkozy's politics), but Macron is another type of beast.

Thank you so much Lindsey for the mention! I got all surprised when I read my name as I was all about the not so funny French news you reported. You just made my day! Thanks again!

Pffft, Macron will not be warmly remembered. He has managed to offend so many voting groups.

Good info about Attal (though for a minute I thought you were talking about Macron's ex-husband!). The NYT literary quiz was easy. I did like Leïla Slimani's "Read Your Way through Paris" essay. She talked about Annie Ernaux's popularity before Ernaux won the Nobel Prize.

Oh, I just love “embourgeoisement générale” - you have an amazing way with words in both French and English.

These story round ups are so helpful for people like me when I am somewhat unsure of what is happening in French politics but need to know!

Dear Lindsey, Merci so much for explaining things to me so clearly about what is going on! I also appreciate Heather Cox Richardson who explains the US to me on a daily basis. So helpful!

As a Brit, living in UK if you think your political administration is not up to snuff.......for the major part of my (life?)..(existence in this form?),whatever, birth control, over population and the necessity to reduce the numbers of humanity in order not to wreck the planet has been a dominating narrative and now it seems all too successful in the prosperous West, only it seems that natural law is kicking in that where there is an empty space nature fills it. That's a bit too simplistic really but it's strange to see how the society I grew up in that seemed so set in stone and had been and always would be the way it was for most of my life is now gone with the wind. I guess my sense of discombobulation has happened all through history. I'm glad I had a glimpse of how it was. I think it's much tougher now for anyone under 50,for young adults and for children as there are some toxic narratives out there. I hate the way I'm now hearing War talked up (in British mainstream media),it's like they think we've forgotten about 1914-18. Now it's all, true blue Brits want to get over there, get stuck in and eliminate .......whoever/whichever,your Country needs You.
