Movies, Agnes B, & trash collection! So many of my niche interests in one newsletter 🥰 (Venetian trash collection is something to behold. A person rings our doorbell 6 days a week & we hand him our trash)
Ah les crottes de chien. Paris never disappoints. 😂 in the 80’s I think there were a series of TV public service ads that tried to use shame to control owners (Les Beurks) who let their dogs shit on the sidewalks. The ad had kids hold their nose, point and exclaim « oh le beurk! ». It brought us joy! I looked for it and couldn’t find it. Clearly it didn’t work!
I love Agnes B. There used to be a shop in Los Angeles near our office. I still have a few pieces that are over twenty years old (and my makeup case). Their clothes run slim, for us women with larger breasts, but I was able to find two shirts at the Agnes B. store in Paris last winter. Classic and well made for the price. There's an APC store in Milan now. This is a problem.
AI, I don't know where to even start. Not a fan.
I find it fascinating that French cinema attendance is high and there's a healthy French film/TV industry. I wonder why. Is one reason the investment France makes in the arts, both financial and educational? Is it cultural?
Oh the Japanese garbage… . Will never forget that experience- like WHERE are all the trash bins? Of course, one learns this lesson quickly over there. But Craig Mod’s take is awesome (thanks for sharing!) -take responsibility for your own garbage.
that‘s such a pittoresk newsletter! Actually when i started living in France in 1995 Agnes B. was a thing - i’m so full of respect for her and i’m happy to see her in great shape for her age:)
Nearly spit out my tea at the €25 movie tickets mention, but very happy about the fact that French people are continuing to go to the movies with more frequency.
I love the idea of studying abroad as an adult! Later this year I’m returning to Italy after over a decade. The first of two weeks will be spent at a language school in Bologna and the second in Northern Italy to practice the Italian language I just immersed myself in. All that to say, I’ll definitely have to keep Carrie Angoff in mind for future trips!

Seriously!? Venetian and Japanese synergies!

This was a great round up! That elective idea is so cool!
Read the book Meta is trying to ban. Careless People - we knew Meta was toxic but holy shit.
