If you’re a paid subscriber, you’re seeing this several days before everyone else because you get a head’s up on events, especially when there are limited spaces available! Thank you for supporting my work ❤️
As I was gearing up to visit friends and family in the U.S. in 2022— my first visit since 2019—I put out a call on Instagram to see who would be interested in coming to an event in New York or Philly around The New Parisienne. The response was enthusiastic! I hadn’t done a single in-person event for the book outside of Paris and by that point, the book had been out for two years. I quickly learned that bookstores were only just starting to resume in-store talks and were, understandably, prioritizing new releases. It wasn’t going to happen. I let it go, went for my visit, and that was it.
Last year, I put out some feelers about an event when I was gearing up for another visit but felt exhausted by my own hustle. At that point, I was deep in thinking about other projects so I dropped the idea.
And then, as the Eater book was nearing its launch date, I had a conversation with Cécilia Jourdan (Hello French) about events and before I knew it, she was putting me in touch with the event programming team at Albertine1. Months later, we’ve got ourselves a date and a discussion topic I’m really excited to dive into! Even better, the conversation will be led by Priya Parker, the bestselling author of The Art of Gathering and a talented writer, thinker and organizer I admire greatly. She brings her deep interest in how and why people connect, gather, and engage to the conversation—I’m excited to see where it leads!

See you in September!
Albertine is the only bookshop in New York devoted solely to books in French and English with more than 14,000 contemporary and classic titles from 30 French-speaking countries. It’s part of Villa Albertine, itself part of The French Institute for Cultural and Education, and supports the French government’s commitment to French-American intellectual exchange.
I am crushed that I won't be able to be at this event for not only will I miss you, but also Priya! I give her book to all my nonprofit clients just as I give The New Parisienne to all my Francophile friends. So glad you are having this event and hopefully I'll catch you at the next one. Heather
I'll be there around Thanksgiving, so too late for this. Enjoy my home of 20+ years!! And merde for your event.
